What is Culture?
Deconstructing the Myth

In this country, American means white. Everybody else has to hyphenate.
3 minute watch
“White people have no culture.” — Yes, they do. But since it was enforced through centuries of colonialism, this culture is regarded as the default.
COMMUNITY EVENT
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We are excited to invite you to join us for a very special event—Kindred Seedlings Farm’s Silent Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, October 19th! This fundraiser is essential to support the continued growth and development of Kindred Seedlings, a farm that started as an act of anti-racism and is still inspired to make a significant impact in our community.
Our Story
Kindred Seedlings was founded by LaShauna Austria, inspired by the lack of Black women farmers in Alamance County. Starting from a dining room in her home and utilizing a quarter-acre suburban backyard, LaShauna's vision blossomed into a thriving business. With the help of Elon University’s Love Business School, LaShauna expanded her offerings to a variety of plant starts and seedlings, culinary herbs and herbal tea blends. The acquisition of a 20-acre farm in Southern Alamance marked a new chapter, allowing LaShauna to offer her products at Black Farmers Markets and local vendors.
Our Goal
To continue building on this momentum, we are raising $50,000 to support critical projects that will enhance our operations:
Storage Facility ($12,000): Protect and maintain tools, Vinnie the Tractor, and the lawnmower.
Real Greenhouse ($5,000): Increase capacity for starting seedlings.
Mandala Design & Fencing ($18,000): Enhance and protect our planting areas.
Historic Barn Repairs ($5,000): Refurbish the barn for Barn Church gatherings.
Part-time Farm Assistant ($10,000): Support additional staffing needs.
