As we close out this historic centennial celebration of Black History Month, our community is coming together to honor the legacy of resistance, resilience, and joy that has sustained us for generations. This weekend offers two powerful opportunities to gather, celebrate, and deepen our understanding of Black history right here in our region.

Black History Month Celebration

Join us for an evening of culture, connection, and celebration! Featuring a live DJ, good food, spades tournaments, and line dancing - this event brings together the best of Black cultural traditions in a space of community and joy.

Saturday, February 28th | Hustling for a Bit of Liberty
The Activist Eloquence of Enslaved Poet George Moses Horton
Chatham Community Library, Holmes Family Meeting Room
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM | Free
Professor Glenn Hinson of UNC presents a program on George Moses Horton, who wrote and lived much of his life in Chatham County the first enslaved Black author in the South to be published in the United States. This program, presented in partnership with Community Remembrance Coalition Chatham, honors Horton's legacy and explores his powerful use of poetry as a tool for freedom and resistance.
